This Side Up keeps your photos and records on your phone. There's no account and no server behind the app: nothing to sign in to, and nothing for us to hold.
The short version. We never receive your photos, the names you type in, tracking numbers, or anything else you enter. It all lives on your device, and the app never uploads any of it.
The app also saves a copy of each photo you take to your phone's photo library. On iPhone, it asks first, and only for permission to add photos, not to browse your library. On Android 11 and later, saving a copy doesn't need permission, so you won't see a prompt. On Android 10 and earlier, the app asks for access to photos, media, and files, and uses it only to save those copies. Each copy keeps the app's file name, which includes the date and the name on the record. Those copies are yours. If your photo library syncs to the cloud, they can sync too. We never see them.
Your phone's own backup to iCloud or your Google account can also include the app's records and photos, the same as for most apps. That backup lives in your account, and we never see it.
When you export a record, your phone's own share screen takes over. Where the file goes from there (email, messages, a cloud drive) is up to you, and from that point the receiving app's privacy policy applies.
Only what a subscription requires. Purchases run through the App Store or Google Play, and we use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives:
We never send your name, email address, or advertising ID, and the app never asks for them. The random ID isn't connected to your identity, and we can't use it to look you up. Apple and Google handle the payment. We never see your card.
On Android, the app scans shipping label barcodes with ML Kit, a Google library built into the app. The camera image and the number it reads stay on your phone. ML Kit does send Google some technical data, including:
Google uses this to find problems and to see how ML Kit is used, and says it doesn't share it with third parties. We don't receive any of it. For the full list, see Google's ML Kit data disclosure. On iPhone, barcodes are scanned on the phone and nothing is sent.
Delete a record in the app and its photos go with it. Delete the app and everything stored inside it goes with it. Copies saved to your photo library stay until you delete them there. A phone backup made before you deleted the app may still include its data. That backup is yours (in iCloud, your Google account, or on your computer), so we can't see it or delete it. None of it ever reached us, so there's nothing for us to delete on our end.

This Side Up is a tool for people who ship things they sell. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Privacy laws in some places (including the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California) give you the right to see, correct, or delete personal information a company holds about you. Ours is a short answer: apart from the anonymous purchase data described above, we hold nothing about you. There's no name, no email, and no profile to hand over or erase. If you want that purchase data deleted, write to us and we'll ask RevenueCat to remove it.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change means we start receiving something we didn't receive before, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
